Aldon Brings Powerful Deployment Package Management Functionality to Adon Lifecyle Manager

Smart Labeling Feature, Built-in Project Manifest Elevate Deployment Best Practices

Emeryville, CA—January-13-2009—Aldon, the ALM company for IT compliance, today announced Aldon Lifecycle Manager (Enterprise Edition) 5.4, the latest version of its software change management solution with powerful new deployment package management capabilities making application re-deployment easy and software roll-outs painless. With smart labeling features and a built-in project manifest, users can easily restore systems back to a previously labeled state if the deployment outcome was not exactly what the user wanted. For software roll-outs or other IT updates across a network, users simply assign target end points and then point-and-click to deliver. The new features not only support deployment best practices, but create confidence across both development and operations, ensuring valuable work is preserved and productivity is increased.

When it comes to application development, deployment is often the most sensitive stage. It can involve multiple development environments, many hardware destination points, clusters of servers (HTTP, load and database servers), and large databases. If there is a glitch at any point, it can send the whole deployment process off course. Aldon's deployment package management feature creates a powerful safety net for the deployment process, so users can securely move applications into production without fear of losing valuable work. The users simply label the last state of the application pre-deployment before moving into production. If something goes wrong, they can quickly and easily roll back the machine to the point before the deployment started. Once the issue is discovered, re-deployment is easy.

The developers are not the only ones benefiting from the new features. Aldon Lifecycle Manager also allows system administrators to easily install the latest version of in-house applications onto new machines being added to the network. Aldon eliminates the time consuming effort of extracting, building and deploying code from simple version control repositories or having to manage build results manually. Also, if the application code running on a particular machine is corrupted, the appropriate application package can be selected straight from the deployment console and installed on the right machine with just a few clicks of the mouse. How it works is Aldon produces a manifest (list of files, versions and configurations) plus a deployment profile that contains the target machine's configuration, where it is located and what needs to be sent. Users can easily pinpoint what they need and act appropriately.

For application testers, using Aldon means they can re-create any previous version of the application on a test machine by simply selecting the appropriate package and sending it to the desired test machines. Software vendors can use deployment package management to recreate a customer's version of the application on their internal machines or to resend particular versions to customers.

Highlights of the Aldon Lifecycle Manager (Enterprise Edition) 5.4 include:

    • On-Demand or Automated Deployment  Upon request, Aldon extracts the appropriate files from a repository and deploys them to the necessary machines.
    • Flexible, Easy Selection Based on Application Structure  Contents of a deployment package label can be selected based on application, release, project, lifecycle stage or other criteria.
    • Simple Deployment Target Selection  User selects the target locations simply by clicking on the desired machines from a list created by Aldon Lifecycle Manager.
    • Deployment Profiles  Users can pre-define sets of deployment targets eliminating the need for the user to write and maintain scripts for deployment or recreate this information each time they need to deploy source.
    • Automated Installation  Once selected, Aldon will deploy and install the package on the target machines and communicate status back to the deployment console.
    • Deployment Console  The Aldon deployment console provides users with up-to-date status information on all deployments and allows users to manage deployment operations from a central location.
    • Deployment Management  Aldon maintains a log of the deployment activity for audit and reporting purposes. It also controls permissions to ensure that only authorized users perform deployments.
